THERE IS AN IMPORTANT INFORMATIONAL MEETING FOR THE MISSION TRIP ON SUNDAY JUNE 22ND @ 5:00PM IN THE DISCOVERY ROOM. IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON ATTENDING THE TRIP, OR WANT TO ATTEND BUT NEED MORE INFORMATION, OR HAVE A STUDENT ATTENDING THE TRIP AND NEED ADDITIONAL INFO PLEASE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO ATTEND THIS MEETING, IN THAT, THIS IS THE ONLY INFORMATIONAL MEETING WE WILL HAVE BEFORE OUR TRAINING BEGINS THE FOLLOWING WEEK BEFOR THE MISSION ITSELF.

Three years after Hurricane Katrina the effects of that massive storm still devistate the city of New Orleans. Over 1/3 of the city's population is displaced throughout the country. We now have a chance to do our part to not only rebuild a city, but the lives of people and their hope in Jesus. This mission is open to all ages and families of Legacy Church. Children who are in 5th grade or below may only attend if their parents attend as well; any student in 6th-12th grade will need a signed waiver from their parents in order to participate. An updated information packet is available at the info desk in the foyer of the Legacy Center, or email Troy Doucet at tdoucet@legacychurch.org for more information. We will be working with two great local non-profit ministry organizations from New Orleans. Here is a brief description of what they are doing there:

(1) Building Better Communities | this organization is bringing about the most good out of the worst situation. BBC has its hands in all things restoration in the Crescent City...from VBS for children, rebuilding homes, to beautification projects in abandoned communities- BBC is there. We will team up with BBC in 'adopting' two families in restoring their homes.* We will get to build a relationship not only with BBC, but these families whose homes were completely ravaged by Katrina. Our project will stem from beautifying their lots by cutting grass, edging, and planting flowers to hanging drywall, taping and bedding and painting. Our plan and prayer is to completely finish the two homes in our week stay and make a long lasting impact in the lives of these two families in New Orleans. We will also have the honor of donating much of the supplies needed to complete this project (wood, sheetrock, etc.) along with donating a plethora of new power tools to the BBC for future construction opportunities in the city. (*This is contingent on exactly how many volunteers we take on the mission. We may end up only 'adopting' one family if our numbers are not adequate for completing both homes*)

(2) The New Orleans Mission | The NOM is a homeless mission which houses 128 residents each night, and offers them a hot meal in the evenings. The great thing about this mission is that its mission is sharing the love and knowledge of Jesus. Each night the mission is open the residents who want to have dinner and a bed for the night must attend a worship service provided by the mission. We have the honor of providing the worship for the NOM during our service to the city. This is an all ages mission that will be conducted during the evening hours of our trip. We will also have the chance to help feed the men and women of the NOM, and share a meal with them each night!! You will be moved by their stories and have a wonderful chance to share the love of Jesus (with words if necessary as St. Francis of Assisi once stated)!! We will also have the honor of donating a much needed commercial washer to the shelter through the generous giving of the Legacy Church family.
