Power in Weakness

The world wants power to escape weakness; the gospel promises power to endure weakness in love. Those aren’t the same things, are they? The problem with what the world wants is that it never works. None of us can ever be powerful enough, rich enough, or insulated enough to escape difficulties or to win all of the time. Even if we could manage it, we’d find ourselves isolated and consumed with self-worship, and we’d never experience the taste of God’s surpassing power and greatness. In a strange way, it’s our weakness that magnifies His worth. God is able to use people, circumstances, and difficulties in ways we cannot even fathom. His power is great, His love is steadfast, and He is ever faithful. As we move from 1 Corinthians, into 2 Corinthians on Sundays, we’ll find the Apostle Paul writing again into the real-life situations that have these early Christians stuck in a spiritual rut. His goal in writing is to reaffirm his own love for them, and to call their eyes up from their daily struggles and strife, so that they would trust in the better way Jesus has laid out for His followers. Join us as we learn from their story, how to live out abundant life, together, as the community of Jesus.
