The Church on Mission
The church, from its beginning, wasn’t a place to go to or an event to sit through; it was a movement. Movements, by nature, move. As we continue learning from the Book of Acts, we’ve seen that the Holy Spirit came to form the church as a people, captivated by the message Jesus, and devoted to carrying out His mission in the world.
The order we find in the earliest believers is
Turn to Jesus
Sent on Mission
Community is Formed
And that is exactly as God intended it.
In his book, The Mission of God, Chris J.H. Wright notes: “It is not so much the case that God has a mission for His church in the world, as that God has a church for His mission in the world. Mission was not made for the church; the church was made for mission – God’s mission.” When you read the Bible, cover-to-cover, it’s unmistakable, “the whole Bible is itself a missional phenomenon.” It’s the story of God, whose mission was to form a family for Himself and His children who would delight in His love. Thank God that when He saves us, He gives us such a wonderful purpose with which to live. And thank God we chase that purpose by His presence and power, rather than on our own.
Join us as we continue learning from Acts, OUR STORY, as we too are a part of the movement: THE CHURCH ON MISSION.
