MESSAGES

In our study and response to God's word, we have several "seasons" with specific focus.  Each spring, we consider our place in God's mission in our local community through LegacyLoves.  Summer is for Psalms and being honest with God.  In Fall we turn our attention to our own spiritual growth and seek to become more like Jesus.  In and around these series, we are constant with the clear gospel of Jesus Christ and we attempt to encourage people with practical and helpful spiritual truths.  Through the teaching of God's Words, we help people find their IDENTITY in Jesus and their place in His MISSION to IMPACT the world through the gospel.

1/24/16 - 2/14/16

Helping people trust Jesus is difficult work when people don't don't even want to be around us.  We're often unaware of the rough edges that sometimes drive people away from us...our, social and spiritual blind spots.  The danger with blind spots is that you have no idea they exist, and can turn us into caricatures of christians who are lacking christian character.  The Proverbs show us how to find wisdom for life, and knock off those rough edges.  Join us as as we seek that wisdom together!

CRAZY BUSY

November 1 - 29, 2015

We've all heard it, we've all said it. Sometimes being busy seems like the theme of our lives. Yet, this frenetic pace poses a serious threat to our physical, social, and even spiritual well-being. Dig into Crazy Busy and get to the bottom of our busyness and, in so doing, find rest for our weary souls.

EVERYDAY (ADVICE FROM THE LITTLE JOHNS)

August 30 - October 25, 2015

The Bible talks a lot about Christians “being made new,” “putting on the new self,” and being “transformed.”  God’s ultimate goal for your life on earth is not comfort, but character development. So we looked to the advice of the Apostle John, who took everyday experiences as opportunities to trust Jesus more and to have his life and faith shaped by the gospel.

LIVING LIFE TOGETHER: "GENUINE TEAMWORK THAT TRANSFORMS"

August 9 - August 23, 2015

God has made us for relationship.  His desire is for us to radically love Him and to radically love one another.  TO learn how this work, Jesus has called us to live in community that is deeper and richer than just "hanging out" - it's "genuine teamwork that transforms" all of life.  We were made for Living Life Together!

LETTERS FROM JESUS: TO THE CHURCHES IN REV 2-3

June 14 - August 2, 2015

In Revelation, Jesus tells John to "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches."  The words and visions that He then offers, demonstrate Jesus' love for His church and His holy desires for His church.  As we read chapters 2 & 3 and see what Jesus has to say to the churches, we'll find those words speaking to us to.  Jesus loves His church.  May we be a church that loves Jesus!

SPEAK THE GOSPEL

May 24 - May 31, 2015

If there could be one thing that informed everything that we do in our lives, what do you think it should be?  Through the story Jesus told, of a father and his two sons, we will discover the gospel as the most central factor in a person's life, and be challenged to "speak the gospel" to ourselves and to others!

ADVENTURES IN MISSING THE POINT: BIBLICAL GIVING

May 24 - May 31, 2015

Do you ever wonder if we’re not doing what we’re supposed to be doing?  …That there’s a way that God wants us to live, and somehow we’ve missed the point?  Somewhere, as we wind through life’s journey, the things we see and experience along the way can distract us from what God is really up to.  It’s time to face our own distractions and rabbit trails, clear our vision, and be realigned to God’s best for our life.  Adventures in Missing the Point is for those who simply and passionately want to see.  In this first adventure in missing the point, we’ll look to where we may have misunderstood the point of giving away money, and we’ll learn why and how God calls us to give.

I SEE YOU: ENCOUNTERS WITH JESUS

April 12 - May 17, 2015

Jesus always saw the people around Him.  He never rushed past, ignoring needs, too busy to engage.  He had the ability to look deeply into a person, and He took the time to meet their deepest needs.  We'll look at 6 life-changing encounters with Jesus found in John's gospel, and how Jesus still meets needs today.

THE STORY OF THE MISSION

March 8 - April 5, 2015

Too often we separate theology (what we know and believe about God) from mission (what we are to do in response to God).  In reality, our mission flows out of our theology.  While the whole Bible is the revelation of who God is, it also clearly demonstrates His purposefulness.  This unity between theology and mission is an important way to look at the grand story of God and His relationship to the people He created.  God is on mission, and we, in that wonderful phrase of Paul's, are "coworkers with God."

FOLK THEOLOGY & how to fix it

February 8 - March 1, 2015

"Folk Theology" is theology that has worked its way into church tradition but has no Biblical basis. These are things that many of us may have grown up hearing and taken for granted that it must be Scriptural…maybe just because it sounds like it should be in the Bible. Some of these things have even found their way into sermons and Bible studies. Many people have adopted folk theology without realizing that it wasn’t from God or about God.

The best way for us to protect ourselves from empty world views and shaky thoughts about God is to have a Biblical theology, and then to build our life on what God has revealed as true. As a sent people we can then engage the brokenness of this world with real and powerful truth.

jonah: God sends

January 4 - February 1, 2015

Charles Spurgeon once said, “Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter.”  This idea is certainly seen throughout the NT.  Jesus was sent from His heavenly home on mission, He called others join Him on that mission, and when He returned to heaven, He left a great missionary commission for all those who would follow Him.  It’s clear: God calls us to Himself and GOD SENDS us out on His mission of drawing still, others, to Him.

In one of the most colorful stories in the OT, we read of the real event of God’s sending His prophet, Jonah, on mission to Nineveh.  The story of Jonah is a true story.  He lived and ministered in Israel from 793 to 753 BC.  He really did flee to a place called Tarshish, he really was swallowed whole by a giant fish, he really did survive in the fish’s belly for 3 days, and was actually vomited up on dry ground in the very spot God had intended Him to be.  It’s a story that Jesus connected with, as he referenced specifically to Jonah’s story foreshadowing His own in certain ways.  It’s a story we can connect with, as most of us know what it means to run the other way from God.

Jonah is not the hero of the story. God is!  In the story we learn of the great lengths God goes to show mercy, compassion, and grace towards rebellious people, and we learn that to belong to God is to be sent by God.  God sends; our job is to go.

advent songs
