Mother's Day Blessings

Mother's Day Blessings

Mother’s Day means something a little different for all of us. Mother’s Day can bring joy, gratitude, grief, longing, tenderness, and complicated emotions all at once. Wherever you find yourself, I pray these words encourage your heart and give you hope.

To the mom raising a teenager: It all happened so fast, didn’t it? One day you were praying, “Lord, please let them sleep through the night…please get them out of diapers…please help them stop throwing tantrums.” And now the prayers can feel heavier. But remember this: while your children may eventually step out from under the covering of your home, they will never outrun the certainty of their Heavenly Father’s love. His love for them is sure, and His pursuit of them is unending.

To the mom whose children are now adults: For years, so much of your life revolved around them. And now it may feel like your purpose has shifted. But God sees you. He hears your prayers. He has not forgotten your children, and He has not forgotten you. As your kids grow older and find their place in the world, I pray you continue to find your place too.

To the mom of little ones: In the middle of diaper changes, spilled snacks, sleepless nights, and endless needs – may you be reminded today that God your Father cares deeply for you. The work you are doing may feel ordinary, exhausting, and unseen, but it is holy work. You are shepherding young hearts. He sees you, He strengthens you, and He is with you.

To the expectant mom: You have been entrusted with one of God’s own. No matter how scared, nervous, or unprepared you may feel, know this: God chose you for this child. He will not leave you to do this alone. He is with you, and He loves you unconditionally.

To the woman desiring motherhood: Waiting for something you deeply desire can be excruciating. He sees the ache that others may not see. He is with you in the waiting, and He is upholding you as you learn to depend on Him. He is no less good in our grief and waiting than He is in our rejoicing. May you stand firm in that truth today, knowing that He holds you in the palm of His hand.

To the adoptive mom, foster mom, or stepmom: Your love reflects the heart of the Father. You may sometimes feel alone, misunderstood, or unseen in the complexity of your calling, but God sees. God knows. And He will strengthen you day by day. May your heart become more and more like His.

To the mom who has lost a child: There are no words sufficient for that kind of grief. But we want you to know today: your child is not forgotten, and neither are you. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. He sees every tear, every memory, every quiet moment of ache. May the God of all comfort hold you close today and remind you that love is not erased by loss.

To the woman or man who has lost a mom: Mother's Day may bring gratitude, but it may also bring sorrow. You may feel the absence in a fresh way this morning. We pray that God meets you tenderly in that space. May the memories that hurt also become reminders of grace. And may the Lord comfort you with the hope that, in Christ, grief never gets the final word.

So, wherever Mother’s Day finds you this year— celebrating, grieving, waiting, remembering, or simply doing your best to get through the day — know this: God sees you, God loves you, and God is near.
