Slow Down: Packing What Matters for a Summer With God

As summer begins and life speeds up with vacations, events, and nonstop activity, it’s tempting to leave God behind in the rush. In this special “Slow Down Sunday” message, the invitation is clear: don’t pack your bags for summer without packing what matters most.

Rooted in the life and teachings of Jesus, the sermon presents a “spiritual packing list”—three key practices to carry with us if we want to stay grounded in God’s presence throughout a busy season:

Silence & Solitude (Mark 1:35)
Before Jesus ministered to others, He withdrew to be with His Father. We’re invited to do the same—to pause, be still, and simply be with God. Not to get something from Him, but to be reminded that He’s already with us, smiling over us, calling us “beloved.” When life is loud, the still, small voice of God often goes unheard. Silence and solitude re-tune our hearts to listen.

Sabbath (Mark 2:23–28)
Rest is not a reward for productivity—it’s a gift, modeled by God Himself. But many of us struggle to stop striving. We wear busyness like a badge and treat rest like a luxury instead of a command. This message gently reminds us: we are not machines. We are beloved children, invited to delight in a God who does not demand our hustle, but invites our trust.

Simplicity (Luke 12:22–34)
Anxiety grows in cluttered hearts. Simplicity is not minimalism—it’s a single-minded pursuit of Jesus. This practice calls us to say no to what distracts us so we can say yes to what draws us closer to God. Simplicity is freedom from comparison, urgency, and worry. It’s about trusting God’s provision and prioritizing His kingdom.

Whether your summer is packed with plans or filled with rest, this message serves as a timely invitation to slow down and walk with Jesus through every moment. With reflection questions, relatable stories, and honest encouragement, the goal isn’t perfection—but presence.

Let this summer be one of spiritual clarity—not because you did everything, but because you stayed close to the One who already did it all.
