More than a Playdate: Finding Encouragement at Preschool Moms Fellowship

Though the years of early motherhood may sometimes feel hidden and unseen, they are not meant to be experienced alone. That’s where Legacy’s Preschool Moms Fellowship steps in. These bi-monthly playdates during the fall and spring are gatherings of moms within our church family and also include families from around the community.  

“We meet in a safe space where our children play while moms visit - sharing funny stories, vulnerable hardships, and faith-filled victories,” explained Charlotte Hughes, who has led the ministry since 2023. 

“I am honored and humbled that I have the gift to serve and lead, especially when littles are too tired to get dressed or someone’s hunt for shoes threatens another delay. Time after time, I see God’s faithfulness to teach me and lead me as I lead from that same well of overflow. Because of His faithfulness over me, I am witness to growth in our little community as mom and child alike grow to bear the image of Jesus.” 

As the Lord reminds us in the book of Hebrews, every day is a chance to encourage one another towards the glorious future that awaits us. The preschool playdates provide a unique opportunity for women to do that with others walking through a similar season. Not only do moms get to connect - but the kids get to connect as well! 

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25 

“These days are so fleeting,” added Charlotte when reflecting on how to encourage other moms of littles. “All of it is just a season. The things that are hard today won’t be as hard tomorrow, and, conversely, something that is smooth and simple now might be surprisingly demanding next time. So, instead of trying to make things easy for myself and my kids, I focus on being present and at rest along the rocky path. When the water cup goes flying or that kiddo scrapes their face when you told them to ‘get down from there’, all they need from me is my presence. It’s in those holy moments of connection God is leading me step by wobbly step.”
