Who, Me? — Jesus, and the Call to Leave Everything

What would it look like if Jesus led a church today? Would we embrace Him—or reject Him as too controversial, too disruptive, too inclusive? In this powerful message from Luke 5, we are confronted with the surprising way Jesus builds His kingdom—not around the powerful, polished, or pious, but around broken, outcast, and ordinary people like Levi, a despised tax collector.

We witness Jesus calling Levi to “follow me,” prompting him to leave everything behind—career, safety, identity—and throw a banquet for other sinners and outcasts. This act of radical grace sparks backlash from religious leaders who believed separation created purity. But Jesus upends their assumptions: He came not for the righteous, but for the sick. Not to patch up our lives, but to make them entirely new.

Through vivid storytelling, cultural insights, and a piercing reflection on our modern faith habits, this message challenges us to identify where we might be placing “Jesus patches” on broken ways, becoming accidental Pharisees, or resisting transformation. It ends with a powerful reminder: Jesus didn’t come to take sides—He came to take over.

At the heart of it all is a question we each must answer: Who, me?

Could Jesus be calling me?

Could He use me?

Is He asking me to leave it all behind?

Maybe it’s time we reclaim the table and join the redemptive work He’s already doing.
