Personal Finance Tips for the Christmas Season

As the Christmas season approaches, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, the lists, and the spending. Everywhere we turn, we’re told that the “perfect” Christmas requires more — more gifts, more decorations, more events.

But before we pull out our wallets, let’s pause and remember what this season is truly about: celebrating the greatest gift of all — Jesus.  Before making any shopping lists, take time to pray and invite God into your plans. Ask Him for wisdom in how you spend, save, and give this year.

Here are some practical tips to consider:
  • Make a Plan — and Stick to It: A simple holiday budget can go a long way. Write down what you can realistically spend — on gifts, food, travel, and giving — and commit to staying within those limits. Consider using cash or a debit card to avoid the temptation of overspending on credit cards.
  • Choose Thoughtful Gifts, Not Expensive Ones: The most meaningful gifts often don’t come with a price tag. Handwritten notes, acts of service, framed photos, or homemade treats can express love just as deeply — and often more sincerely — than store-bought items.
  • Give With Purpose: Christmas is also a wonderful time to give back — whether to families in need, local ministries, or global missions. Consider setting aside a portion of your holiday budget specifically for generosity.

Christmas doesn’t have to be about financial stress; it can be a time of peace and joyful stewardship.
