Rain Delays

Rain Delays

In Rain Delays (James 5; 1 Kings 18), we’re reminded that when pressure hits, we don’t rise to the moment — we fall to our reflex. James points to Elijah, a man “like us,” whose earnest prayer wasn’t marked by hype or intensity, but by confidence in God, persistence in returning, and trust before seeing results. On Mount Carmel, Elijah contrasts the frantic performance of Baal’s prophets with quiet covenant clarity, showing that powerful prayer flows from relationship, not spectacle. Even when the rain delayed and the cloud was small, Elijah kept returning — proving that earnest prayer is habit, not hype. And ultimately, Jesus’ surrendered prayer in Gethsemane assures us that when we bow our heads today, we are already heard — so let prayer be your reflex.
